Den Haag travelled to Amsterdam, keen to avenge their 55 point defeat in the opening round and notch their first win of the year in a match played under a blazing, heat-blistering afternoon sun.

Played on June 4 at Amsterdam’s home pitch, the VVV cricket ground, the opening two quarters saw both teams evenly matched, as the lead swung back and forth. Poor kicking from Amsterdam also helped keep Den Haag in the match.

In the the third quarter, often described as the premiership quarter, neither Den Haag nor Amsterdam could gain the upper hand and scores were tied heading into the last term. But as the heat took its toll and with Den Haag’s line-up depleted by an injury, Amsterdam kicked away with five goals to one in the final term.

The day was sealed with a taste of Alfie’s Pies and drinks on the terrace.
